Statement Jackets

The weather is finally starting to change – sort of. As is gets warmer so begins that annoying time of year when if you wear a jumper and a coat you may burst into flames by 3pm and if you wear a t-shirt with no jacket you will surely turn into an ice lollie. It’s infuriating. To make matters worse shops and your inbox are now being flooded with darling sun dresses and new spring essentials to fawn over.

One thing I have realised is for this time of year is ,yes, do store the heavy coats in which you clamoured for a few months ago towards the back of your wardrobe. But keep the short jackets in at the forefront of your wardrobe space. A piece that you should keep closely within reach (right up into July depending where you live) is a smart blazer. I love one that is made a lighter fabric but one that is strong as well to keep me from freezing if there is a bit of a chill and it smartens up any outfit.

If you are like myself you like to have staple pieces but also a few standouts as well to upgrade any ensemble. This time of year is the best time to keep a few statement shorter jackets in your wardrobe to dress up or add a punch to a monochromatic ensemble that is more for function rather than fashion. For example a black jumper, black jeans, and black boots to keep you warm and a statement jacket to bring it together with a statement. If it’s warmer, swap out the jumper and denim for your favourite tee and a skirt or shorts.

Statement jackets are an all out saviour this time of year. They can make you appear you are more put together than you might feel or can make you look like you “yes you always look this smart” when your look underneath is a bit too casual for the office.
